Plastic wood slats are used for the table top to simulate the look of natural wood, without the associated upkeep. Being plastic wood, surfaces are hard wearing, easy to clean, mould and mildew resistant, rotproof and resistant to greying like natural wood. In fact, plastic wood will change colour over time, but it is treated with UV inhibitors which will slow down the ageing process and the colour shift over time will be gradual and quite natural.
